Difficulty moderate This is described as novice-friendly when levels are adequate, but it still includes Class I-II Skinners Elbow, Class II Wilson Rapids, pushier current at higher levels, and strainer/deadfall consequences in wooded bends.
Permits None noted No route-specific paddling permit is known. Goodman and McClintock are Marinette County parks with day-use or camping rules, and Farm Dam sits in the state-forest / WPS landing corridor; follow posted access and fee requirements.
Camping Options nearby Goodman Park and McClintock Park both have reservable county campgrounds near the river. Treat river camping elsewhere as unconfirmed unless a land manager separately approves it.
Season Apr-Oct Wisconsin Trail Guide says this segment is best from late spring through mid-summer, and after sustained rain from mid-summer through fall. The Peshtigo rises quickly enough that same-day gauge and weather checks matter.

Access, shuttle, and map

Launch below Strong Falls at Goodman Park Access and take out at Farm Dam Public Landing. This is the scenic P4 Peshtigo run, mostly wooded flatwater and riffles with Skinners Elbow and Wilson Rapids adding Class I-II / II boat-control work.

Start

Put-in

Goodman Park Access Open map

Goodman Park Access is a hand-carry beach launch below Strong Falls; use the main park lot and trail to the river, and expect any posted county park fee.

Finish

Take-out

Farm Dam Public Landing Open map

Farm Dam has separate public and commercial outfitter landings. Use the northern public landing on Otter Creek rather than the commercial outfitter landing downstream.

Pulling access map tiles. Usually under 5 seconds.

Access caveats

  • Goodman Park Access is a hand-carry beach launch below Strong Falls; use the main park lot and trail to the river, and expect any posted county park fee.
  • Farm Dam has separate public and commercial outfitter landings. Use the northern public landing on Otter Creek rather than the commercial outfitter landing downstream.
  • The stronger Roaring Rapids route starts below Farm Dam; do not continue downstream unless your group intentionally planned the more serious whitewater section.

Watch for

  • Skinners Elbow and Wilson Rapids, which become stronger and wavier as the County C gauge rises.
  • Scrapier riffles below 5.0 ft and increasingly pushy Class II water above 6.5 ft.
  • Deadfall, strainers, cold water, and limited road exits through wooded bends.
  • Strong Falls is upstream of the launch; scout park paths and stay clear of falls current while staging boats.
